Litter

Litter along the roadsides is an ongoing problem in and around the village. The Community Council has been negotiating with South Ayrshire Council about litter signs for almost 4 years now with still no end product.

In a hope of improving the litter problem the CC has purchased litter pickers, gloves and bags which are available to anyone who is motivated enough to do some litter picking.

If you need any of these items contact either:

Ann Robertson on 07766 740179 or Andrew Clegg on 01465 821456

and we will get the supplies needed to you.

Church Services

DOG FOULING AND USE OF POOP BAGS

The Community Council would like to remind dog owners that "poop" bags are available free of charge from the village shop.
Please be considerate to other members of the community and clean up after your dogs misdeeds.

The use of "poop" bags has been successful in helping to keep the village clean but some people are still being inconsiderate in having very kindly bagged their dogs poop they have then just hung the bag in a nearby bush or tree. Being a generous soul I would like to think that they were put there with the intention of collecting them on the return journey of their walk rather than a deliberate act. Please dispose of "poop" bags in a hygienic and environmentaly friendly way.

Remembrance Day
The Remembrance Day service is on Sunday—3pm at the War Memorial.

ESSENTIAL MAINTENANCE ON THE A77 SOUTH OF GIRVAN

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the Network Management Contract for the South-West Trunk Road Unit, are undertaking essential maintenance on the A77 at Shalloch Mill, south of Girvan, from Friday 18th November until Monday 21st November 2022.

The work will require a full weekend closure of this section of the carriageway, from 7pm on Friday 18th November until 6am on Monday 21st November 2022. A signed diversion will be in operation. We thank road users for their patience and cooperation whilst these essential works take place.

The diversion will operate as follows: southbound traffic will exit the A77 at Shallochpark Roundabout onto the A714 and follow to North Barnkirk, turning right onto the unclassified road to South Barnkirk and then turning right onto the A75 and continuing westbound towards Stranraer before taking the A751 to Innermessan and rejoining the A77 northbound towards Cairnryan. Northbound traffic will take the A77 southbound and turn left onto the A751 then left onto the A75 eastbound towards Newton Stewart, turning left onto the unclassified road at South Barnkirk then left onto the A714 at North Barnkirk and following to the A77 Shallochpark Roundabout.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

Knockodhar invites you to in-person public exhibitions for its planned Knockodhar Wind Farm.

Knockodhar Ltd has been working hard over the past couple of years to develop and refine our proposals for a wind farm and energy storage system on a commercial forestry site south west of Barr in South Ayrshire.

We are now at the stage when we can come back to the local community to tell you about the updated proposals. Wind turbine numbers have been significantly reduced following extensive environmental survey work which included dealing with matters such as peat, noise, landscape and visual impact and water supplies. Whilst our previous round of consultation had to be undertaken online due to the pandemic, we are now able to visit you in person and would like to invite you to join us on one of the dates shown below. If you aren't able to make it along on any of these dates, you'll still be able to find all of the information and make comments on our website www.knockodhar.co.uk

BARRHILL NEWS October 2022

Drain Maintenance

This week residents in Barrhill will be receiving a letter informing them that George Leslie, a Civil Engineering company, will be in their village on Monday 26th September for approximately two weeks.

The work we are conducting is routine maintenance of Scottish Water's network, removing overgrown tree roots that have invaded the pipes. Once we have cleared the roots, we will be lining them (putting a plastic pipe inside the clay pipes) and be on our way.

To work safely, we must close off Forest Road between the main street all the way up to the Wastewater Treatment Centre. This will inconvenience two properties but our staff on site will make allowances for the residents and not block off the access to their homes. Traffic Management on Baluskie road and Main Street, this will involve 4-way traffic lights at the junction a lane closure on Baluskie road and a road closure on Baluskie road.

This will allow us to line the 300m of sewer and replace manhole covers and frames and reinstate surfacing and verge around the new manhole lids.

MAIN STREET RESURFACING

This is to advise you of programmed carriageway resurfacing works at A714 Main Street, Barrhill as part of our 22/23 programme. These works will commence on Friday 14th October 2022 and are anticipated to last for 10 days.

In the interest of safety for all road users and operative we have no options but to close the road due to the width of the carriageway and the two bridges. Our working hours are 8am to 5pm. We will be also asking the residents to park in nearby streets to allow us to carry out the works.

The works extend from just South of the Mark Hill entrance to just north of the school entrance.

Coronavirus Support Funding

Carrick Futures has set aside £5000 to support the Barrhill community in the current lockdown situation. The application form and instructions for a grant are on the Carrick Futures website. It does require you to be part of a constituted group or sponsored by one (eg the Community Council). The Community Council also has the small grant scheme which can also be used for some community resilience schemes.

Carrrick Futures has already provided £3000 support to Ayrshire Cancer Support for the transport of patients from the South Carrick area to hospital appointments.

Road Works Schedule

The weekly scheduled roadworks for SW Scotland is available in Excel spreadsheet format here.

Note these are the TRANSERVE maintained roads so does not include the A714.
I can only upload these when they are sent to me so occasionally a week goes missing.

Ths services in the hall have restarted and are on the third Sunday of the month.

New Rail Timetable

January temporary timetable

The rapid spread of the COVID-19 Omicron variant has resulted in a large number of absences at ScotRail, with colleagues testing positive, awaiting results, or having to self-isolate. This means that several services have been changed or even cancelled, in recent weeks. To avoid further last-minute changes and provide a greater level of certainty to our customers, a temporary timetable will come into effect from Tuesday 4 January 2022, operating Monday to Friday until Tuesday 28 January 2022.

The new full timetable from Monday 12th December is now available.

The only significant change I have noticed is the Sunday service that leaves Ayr at 13:06 and arrives in Barrhill at 13:56 replacing the 12:27 from Ayr arriving at 13:12. Other changes are just odd minutes here and there.
