Projects under construction

2004 was a record year for the rapidly expanding UK wind industry, and 2005 is set to be even better. 18 new projects totalling over 600 megawatts (MW) are currently under construction and scheduled for commissioning by end 2005.

This represents a 66% increase in wind power's generation capabilties - or enough extra clean green electricity to meet the needs of a third of a million homes - that's every household in Manchester - twice.

Projects currently under construction combined with wind farms online will meet some 1.5% of UK electricity supply by the end of 2005. This would be equivalent to the annual electricity needs of just under one million UK households, assuming an average annual domestic consumption of 4,700 units of electricity.
