This is an open meeting so everyone welcome. ~ Barrhill Bowling Club will be opening for the 2010 season on Saturday, 1st May at 2pm. Regular club nights are Monday & Thursday during the season. Adult Playing Membership - £30 Junior Playing Membership - £15 Non-playing Membership - £10 New members always welcome. I'll be standing down from all Office Posts, (it has been a very interesting 6 years!) although I will continue for the foreseeable future as a Community Councillor. Adrian, could you put up March's minutes in the Village Noticeboard? We will have John Dent, of Ashby Scott in attendance to give us an update and he will be joined by a colleague who will be able to answer questions on the timber side of the development. The scheduled dates for the next to meetings are: Thursday 29th April 2010 7.30 p.m. Barrhill Memorial Hall - Normal Meeting + AGM Thursday 27th May 7.30 p.m. Barrhill Memorial Hall August date to be checked Thursday 23rd September 2010 7.30 p.m. Barrhill Memorial Hall Thursday 28th October 2010 7.30 p.m. Barrhill Memorial Hall Thursday 9th December 7.30 p.m. Barrhill Memorial Hall Notice is hereby given that the undernoted have been duly elected to serve on Barrhill Community Council from 1st April 2010 until 31 March 2013: Irene Allinson, Frank Claytonsmith, Adrian Goodall, Louba Hodgkinson, David Holtom, Lily Niven, Fionnadh Ratchford, Iain Ratchford and Celia Strain. Kilgallioch Windfarm (Arecleoch Phase 2) An application for a 132-wind turbine project in southern Scotland has been submitted to the Scottish government. Scottish Power Renewables wants to build the scheme at Kilgallioch Forest, from the Southern edge of the Arecleoch Windfarm, extending from South Ayrshire into Dumfries and Galloway. If constructed it would be one of the largest wind farms in Scotland with a capacity of up to 396 megawatts. Representations on the plans can be put forward until 28 April and a number of public information days will take place prior to that date. Information days will be held at New Luce, Kirkcowan and Barrhill next month to outline the plans: Barrhill Memorial Hall, Monday 12th April, 3pm until 7pm and New Luce Memorial Hall, Tuesday 13th April, 3pm until 7pm and Kirkcowan Community Hall, Wednesday 14th April, 3pm until 7pm A copy of the application and plans are available in the reading Room of Barrhill Memorial Hall. Proposed Rail Head At the last Barrhill Community Council meeting, Stan Corcoran of the Forestry Commission and John Dent of Ashby Scott outlined the latest development of a Rail Head to remove timber extraction from the roads and to deliver some of it instead, by rail. Ashby Scott forms part of a Consortium of companies which hopes to deliver this project and the EfW plant described below. As part of a bigger scheme, the Consortium is looking at an Energy from Waste scheme (EfW). This project has just been suggested and the Consortium is keen for the community to be involved at all stages. An EfW plant would involve the development of a state of the art Incinerator in the Arecleoch woodland. As this land is not scheduled for Industry, this could involve the submission of a detailed Planning Application to South Ayrshire Council. Proposals include the delivery of municipal waste from the central belt of Scotland . It is foreseen that this waste would be delivered in sealed units by train, although some delivery by road cannot been ruled out at this stage. The energy from this incineration plant could be sent to the grid via the existing Scottish Power overhead lines. Other proposals might involve a horticultural enterprise for the growing of tomatoes that would use some of the surplus heat. Another development would be a plant to produce wood pellets for central heating systems and industrial purposes. It has been suggested that if all the projects go ahead, some 150 to 200 jobs could be created. These proposals could change the nature of our area. If it goes ahead, we'd need to hear your thoughts on these issues and we will keep you informed. We would like to remind dig owners of their responsibilities of cleaning up their dog’s mess in the village and especially in and around Arnsheen Park. There are FREE Dog Dirt Bags available from Mark at the village shop. We would also like to THANK the responsible dog owners who DO clean up after their pets. If any member of the public knows the Irresponsible dog owners can they please tell any member of the Community Council. Church of Scotland St Colmon Parish Church The services in Barrhill are in the Memorial Hall at 3pm on the third Sunday of the month. After each service, tea and coffee are served. All are very welcome.
